confession: i've been obsessed with karla deras for quite some time (hint: it began when she still had long hair). karla manages to look chic, relaxed, and utterly unique every time she steps out in one of her amazingly coordinated outfits. she favors vintage and rocks tea dresses like no one i know. the girl has an enviable wardrobe and an even more enviable hairstyle.
1. You clearly have a fabulous signature style! Where do you like to shop? Hubba Hubba for party dresses and minis, Wasteland for coats and furs, American Apparel for cotton dress and leotards, and random online shoe boutiques. I always buy my shoes online because I can never find any that I like in stores.
2. Do you think of yourself as a style icon? Be honest- we think of you as one J Well thank you! I actually don’t see myself as a style icon. I guess it’s because I think of style icons as people who were totally revolutionary… Like Audrey Hepburn. I could never in a million years be compared to her.
3. Where do you see yourself in ten years? If ten’s too far, how about five? Well in ten years, I’ll be almost thirty years old, so I’m hoping that by that time I’ll be married, with kids, and running a successful clothing company. Oh and hopefully by then I’ll know how to cook.
4. What would you say are the perks of blogging? Has it put you in touch with designers? PR people? It’s pretty nifty. I get tons of emails weekly from designers and PR people that want me to check out their line’s lookbooks or sites. And sometimes they offer me samples, those are the best kind of emails.
5. What’s your “day job”? Well right now I’m a full-time student at FIDM, so I don’t really have like a 9-5 job. I’m working on something really exciting though that will hopefully launch soon… and pay for my shameless shoe fetish.
6. What’s the craziest comment you’ve gotten? Do you communicate with other bloggers? If so, have you guys met in person or just online? Craziest comment I’ve gotten? Once, someone proposed to me anonymously- kind of freaky. Oh and yes, I do communicate with some of the bloggers through comments/email, but I’ve never met any of them in person.
7. What do you do for fun outside of blogging (this is a lamely worded question, I apologize) – I basically mean tell us about your life outside of your online persona. I love music, I write and sing. I also love trying out new restaurants and such with the boyfriend. He’s like my partner in crime.
8. Along those lines, would you say your online persona is the same as your “real” personality? Radically different? We’re pretty similar, except for sometimes I write really random things and I don’t think people get it because they don’t know me, so instead of sounding funny/borderline normal, I sound like an insane dummy.
9. What is your all time favorite piece of clothing? This vintage wool blazer I have. I wear it all the time.
10. What kind of music do you listen to? I like R&B. Anything from Al Green to Maxwell to Beyonce.
